Water and Drought

Current Water Restriction Stage
Effective Immediately
The Jemez Springs Domestic Water Association is requesting voluntary water conservation from all customers due to increased water usage and current impacts to local irrigation water availability.
Recent flooding has damaged the acequia system that provides irrigation water within our community. Restoration and repairs will take time. While we recognize the importance of irrigation water for gardens and other agricultural needs, potable treated drinking water from the Jemez Springs Domestic Water Association cannot replace irrigation supplies for extensive outdoor use.
JSDWA’s water system is designed primarily to provide safe and reliable drinking water for domestic needs and limited commercial use. We are asking customers to voluntarily reduce nonessential water consumption to help maintain adequate water storage and system reliability.
Customers are encouraged to:
- Limit outdoor watering and irrigation of lawns.
- Use potable water for small garden areas only and avoid excessive irrigation.
- Avoid washing vehicles with treated water.
- Avoid washing driveways, sidewalks, patios, or other paved areas.
- Repair leaking faucets, toilets, and water lines promptly.
- Run washing machines and dishwashers only with full loads.
- Take shorter showers and avoid allowing water to run unnecessarily.
- Consider water-wise landscaping practices such as xeriscaping.
JSDWA appreciates that many residents have already made significant efforts to conserve water. These voluntary actions help protect our community’s water supply and ensure reliable service for all customers.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.
Drought Restriction Stages
STAGE l. (Designated as Yellow) When the maximum daily flow exceeds production over short periods (such as weekend days) as determined by the System Operator and one member of the Board of Directors.
STAGE 2. (Designated as Orange) When the maximum daily flow exceeds production over extended periods (more than weekends or holidays) as determined by the System Operator and one member of the Board of Directors.
STAGE 3. (Designated as Red) When the maximum daily flow exceeds production such that storage levels become critically low as determined by the System Operator and one member of the Board of Directors.
Any of the above stages can also be declared when water system failures such as broken water mains, power outages, mechanical failure of storage tanks or other equipment prevents any storage recovery.
